Leap into Spring!
Don’t have a lot of money or space at your disposal, but want to re-invent your garden?
‘When making over a garden, you don’t need to break the bank to revive and refresh its look,’ said Susan Harkema from Dandy Scapes. This is evident in this year’s Get It Joburg West garden, called Fusion Dreams, an existing and much-loved exhibition garden that received a lovely revamp from Susan’s capable hands.
Susan used cost-effective varieties of plants that split easily to fill areas in the garden without spending a huge amount of money buying loads of different plants. Using interesting landscaping elements (which provide a clean, simple look) paired perfectly with bold flower colours gives the garden a calming and understated appeal. We just have to mention that we love the steel artworks panels which immediately caught our eye and create a bold statement on the wall!
Susan elaborated a bit more: ‘The two metal archways framing the entrance to this garden beckon the viewer to enter and explore. My aim for the garden is to delight the senses with its fusion of bold colours and textures, sounds of soothing water and the feeling of gravel crunching under your feet. By using circular shapes in the garden, the eye is encouraged to pause, and you’re invited to take a seat under the shade of the Jacaranda tree – an ideal space to stop, unwind and exhale away the troubles of the day.’
‘In short, this is mostly a shade garden with bright, happy colours combined with interesting textures in the planting. It is the kind of garden that plant-lovers like, because there is an opportunity to use many of your favourite plants all together.’
