Aishania was one of twelve children from across South Africa who participated in the thrilling Toy Sprint 2017. Entrants were chosen from thousands of applicants to fill their trolleys with as many toys (to the maximum value R15 000) as possible within a minute at their nearest Toys R Us.
Regional Toy Sprints were held in stores in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban. The top 12 went head-to-head in an online video battle to win the grand prize, with Nickelodeon fans voting for their favourite runner.
The lucky dozen were Western Cape finalists Singabakho Dube, Vanya Adelaide Hollenbach, Nicholis Nieuwoudt and Keagan Eric Wilkinson; Gauteng winners Aishania Sana Naidoo, Chad Fanaroff, Julie Joan Kloppe and Maleeha Suliman and KZN champions Keenan Moodley, Nikhil Govendor, Tiahna Raghoonundun and Tahil Maharaj.
However, it was Aishania who triumphed in the finals, “Winning Nickelodeon’s Toy Sprint is the best news I have received in my entire life. I am so excited about the trip and would like to thank Nickelodeon, Toys R Us and everybody who voted for me.”
Says Tasania Parsadh, Channel Director for Nickelodeon Africa (Nickelodeon, Nicktoons & Nick Jr), at Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) Africa: “Children always come first at Nickelodeon where we have a number of campaigns which speak to their entertainment and education. This is the second edition of the competition with the first being the Ultimate Toy Run in 2016. This year, we received over a million votes, with Aishania who most impressed viewers with her tenacity and game plan.”
Toys R Us Marketing Manager, Nicole Annells, said: “We received over a million votes! What an incredible response to a fantastic Toys R Us and Nickelodeon venture. We are so excited for our deserving winner and her family and have no doubt they will have the most incredible holiday. We look forward to making more children’s dreams of running through our Toys R Us stores, a reality in the future.”
Aishania wins an all-expenses paid trip to the Nickelodeon Hotel and Resort Punta, Dominican Republic. This includes round trip airfare, five nights hotel accommodation for her and three family members or friends as well as $1800 dollars (about R23 000) in spending money.
