Forking good times!

Calling all foodies, home cooks, aspiring chefs, pastry artists and culinary gurus! Appetite Fest is a family-friendly food event that will be cooking up a storm at Time Square’s Sun Arena this August.

Food and fun enthusiasts can brace for something more than just good food and wine this August. Time Square South Africa in Menlyn Maine is bringing to Tshwane the biggest culinary and entertainment festival South Africa has yet seen. The Appetite Fest, on 18 and 19 August, will see Time Square’s Sun Arena and outdoor areas transformed into a playground of inspired food, drinks and entertainment.

Local and international food heroes, frontline vineyards, cheesemakers, restaurants, and producers will showcase some of the best culinary offerings in the country. In the Sun Arena, a wide range of exhibitors, craft brewers, artisan producers, premium drink brands and award-winning wineries will offer a bounty of the country’s finest foods and drinks to test-taste and purchase.  Also, watch international and local celebrity chefs show-off their culinary prowess in food theatres, be part of interactive question and answer sessions, and meet and greet your favourite food stars at book signings, master classes or an exclusive chef’s table.  In the cast of culinary artists confirmed to appear at Time Square’s Appetite Fest are Gary Mehigan; George Calombaris and Matt Preston of MasterChef Australia fame; Vineet Bhatia, a Michelin Star Chef from the United Kingdom, as well as top local chefs Siba; Sarah Graham; Nti; J’ Something; Bertus Basson; Peter Tempelhoff; Chris Papayannes; Eric Bulpitt; Katlego Mlambo; Nathan Jacobs and Stephanie Ceronio.

A family-friendly experience, Appetite Fest invites food and fun-loving South Africans of all ages. Outside, there will be themed, dedicated zones with entertainment and experiences for the ladies, guys and kids respectively. For the ladies think craft gin, champagne, pamper sessions, and sushi. For the guys think braai, bikes, beer and brannas while watching SA vs Argentina rugby on the biggest screen in the southern hemisphere. Children will be safe and entertained in the access controlled and secure Kids Own zone with professional and caring childminders. Activities include jumping castles, jungle gyms, ball pit, face painting, children’s cooking theatre, coordination games and their very own kid’s food court. For the older crowd, there is Magic Company.

Gourmet food trucks will serve up a diversity of exciting street food, while comedians, DJs and bands will keep visitors entertained in a vibrant, authentically South African festival-style. On the bill to entertain the crowds are Barry Hilton; Bobby Van Jaarsveld and Dan Nicholl, with more announcements to follow.

Conceptualized by Time Square’s eclectic team of food, beverage and entertainment specialists, Appetite Fest is an exciting platform to explore the tastes, flavours, sights and sounds that make living in South Africa great.

“We are thrilled to announce the inauguration of Appetite Fest, a celebration of South African food and entertainment. It is all systems go as we prepare to bring it to fruition. Look out for more announcements of what’s in store. This is more than good food and wine. It’s gonna be lekker bru!” says Brett Hoppé, the General Manager at Time Square.
